Vishakapatnam is one of the major port cities in India. After the partition of former Andhra Pradesh into Seemandhra and Telangana, the government of both states has done lot of commendable work. The most positive aspect is that the met department has come to the aid and done lot of positive steps from the previous natural calamities hitting the areas in and around Vishakapatnam. The positive aspect is that Odisha was spared to a great extent. The massive damage done to the port city can be ascertained by the status of airport, naval establishments, road, power lines, infrastructure and others. The Army, Navy and the disaster management teams along with the Coast guard have done their home work by evacuating approx 5 lakh people from the coastal areas. After cyclone Hudhud crossed the coast, relief and rescue operations began to take place on a large scale. Chief Minister of both states rushed to the occasion and announced relief packages. Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi also made an aerial survey in his official plane Air India One. He immediately offered approx INR 1000 Crores to the state to make sure the essential commodities, drinking water, power, milk, power supply and othe facilties are not hit. The Andhra Pradesh Odisha coastline has always remained vulnerabgle to highest level of the cyclones and natural calamities in the past. The Bay of Bengal itself has been the picnic spot of various cyclones that has hit Inn the past. Since 1871 Hud hud is the 80th cyclone to attack India. With the introduction of the NPDM (National Policy on the Disaster Management) the creation of various teams, India has succeded in reducing the number of casualties over the years and managing the calamities in a systamatic manner. Countries like Srilanka, Indonesia, China came forward in providing the assistance. Neighbouring states like Odisha, Poschim Bengal have agreed to get the power supply back on track. The newly bifuricated state has been requesting the centre to providing huge grants to build a new capital and also to improve the infrastructure. The major state and national highways have suffered maximum damage and needs to be brough to their original standards. It will be a great challenge to build vishakapatnam and bring it at par with other cities in India.
