Facebook is ruling the Social Network business. Quora a fresh start, does the same thing as facebook but except that it has valuable questions answers and does not make you feel dumb after whole day of surfing the net.
Quora was founded by Adam D'Angelo and Charlie Cheever, both former employees of facebook. Quora was launched in 2009.
Quora is ofcourse not facebook, but each internet product has a certain life after which it start falling down. We have example of Orkut, Myspace etc.
In case facebook makes a way, will Quora fill it?
Quora is not for trols, neither for spammers. How can it challange facebook?
Facebook is basically a status and media sharing application. But after sometime users start feeling bored with facebook, but this is not the case with Quora.
The more time you spend on discussions, more you are recognised worldwide.

I would like to have your attention on 3 points before we move to a conclusion.
Is Quora making enough revenue to sustain the technological advancements?
Answer is Yes, Quora have good investments. Wikipedia founder is one of the investor, and product is backed by many strong investors.
Quora has enoguh attraction to hold the users?
Again the answer is probably yes. Problem with quora is that it covers all topics possible on earth. Before Quora can compete with big sites, it has to compete with various established forums. For example one looking answer for SEO related doubts will ask it on digitalpoints rather than quora.
Does Quora have a revenue model which can support its expenses?
Till now Quora have not made a single penny from the site. But yes revenue model does exist. Quora can cover its cost in a year if it does advertise on its site. For example using adsense on Quora can make Quora the highest adsense earner(Quora is way ahead than other adsense users).
If we analyse the 3 questions, we can make that Quora has the potential to grow big. But Quora can not compete with social networking site.
People use Social Networking sites after working hours to relax but Quora is a big no after working hours. Who would like to read the serious things after a tough day.

Been in stock market and watched many companies. Had a topic on educomp earler on this forum.
The things to see is we can compare quora with the companies operating in education sector. What these companies did was providing a medium to transfer the knowledge. Same things is done by quora.
These companies failed but Quora is still alive. On internet one need contents to survive and valuable contents to rule.
Quora not only have good content but also valuable. Agree with Rahul Rai that generality may be an issue.
Already established forums are competitors. If quora can find a way to compete with these existing forums than quora would be a hit.
