Forum marketing and successful user acquisition strategy
Tikshare is a great site and we have collected huge knowledge by discussing on forum. This is the time we need to take the website to next level.
By next level i mean making it a hit, having lot of users to discuss and share their knowledge.
How should we go ahead to market our Forum? What marketing skills do we need and we should follow to make our forum next big thing in India?
Should we focus on paid advertising for this or host any competition? Tikshare is already having a contest to attract user participation.
What is one thing that we are missing? Our forum part of website is one of the cleanest and finest in all the forums we have in India.
Till date we are not a failed website but we are missing something, something that can bring lot of users. If people can waste their time on Facebook reading useless status, cannot they participate in useful discussion!!!
What is the mentality of people those who discuss online and those who do not?
We have good number of visitors on site reading our discussions, but what stops them from asking their doubts or sharing their knowledge on site?
I feel these are some of the reasons why a Well-launched website like Tikshare struggles to become a hit in short-run.
1. Experts having Specialised Practical hands-on experience in major topics like Direct taxes, indirect taxes, corporate and other laws. I guess we dont have many experts on board tikshare.
2. Online Discussion , Debating, Seminars, articles, materials are still not very reliable to many large users, they dont want to take chances relying on forum discussions and google materials. They prefer to personally go for expert opinion from Well-experienced and reputed Chartered accountants.
3. Tikshare , its my feeling does not discuss latest legal amendments, important judgements, circulars, notifications on a regualr basis which many professionals look out for to keep themselves abreast of latest updates.
No website becomes a hit overnight, lot of trial and error , lots of improvements, innovations should take place which i guess tikshare team owners will definitely think of in the future.
Whatever i said above was in relation to Professional discussions and articles.
Coming to general discussions like Entertainment, Politics, Economy, Sports, i feel people generally people hear more about Quora, facebook, Times blogs, Reddit, Digg where lot of serious debaters take part in discussions. So, these sites generate more traffic than some other small sites.
I think a well observation and analysis. But again dont you think we have really good discussion on site. Even if we take Quora, Reddit or any other site, big advantage they have is lot of users.
Even initially these sites struggled to find users but they implemented a good strategy. They hired users or owners posted themselves. We are doing it on Tikshare, even good number of people are also doing it.
One good thing with Quora founders was that they asked their friends to post on site. This is not working with Tikshare.
I have asked many friends and think even you must have done it, but unluckily we have friends who are not much interested in discussions.
It can also be attributed to fact that Indians on general don’t like to discuss on good and useful platforms. We don’t have world class bloggers except few like Amit Agarwal or Harsh Agarwal.
Good number of Indians are discussing on Quora, I am one of them. Most of the Indians on Quora are either from IIT or other high end educational institutions.
I think our plan should be:
Invite our friends, each existing member of Tikshare should invite their friends.
Advertise our forum among IIT, IIM etc.
Keep posting the great stuffs.
Yes, Tikshare should give thought provoking, unconventional, reliable materials and articles. At the same time touch subtle issues not discussed elesewhere. But, for that tikshare team must work hard to build their knowledge database in varied fields of knowledge. Expecting users to make it a hit is definitely secondary. The Moderators, admins need to do something innovative.
