IS CRICKET KILLING OTHER GAMES IN INDIACricket is one of the major sports in India. In the year 1983, the situation changed completely, when Kapil’s devils won the prudential cup defeating the mighty West Indies.  The game is widely followed in India after that. The role of other sports in the minds of the people began to slowly fade. Many sports like Hockey, Badminton, Kabaddi, and Football began to lose their ground. The sports association of the above mentioned sports became non professional due to infighting and insecurity.

Cricket at this stage became more powerful and the rise of events like IPL and Twenty Twenty lead to the slow and steady decline of other sports. The Indian cricket board or BCCI (Board of Control of Cricket in India) is said to be reaping huge benefits. It is believed that BCCI is richer than the ICC and the US government. Furthermore, the BCCI is also getting the backing from the huge corporate houses and real estate giants in India. However, the association related to other sports is getting less support from the corporate and the business houses.

We must revamp the entire sports structure and stress on professionalism in the sports if we want to match the international standards. We must cultivate the model equivalent to Australia and encourage the growth and development of sports bodies and associations on their model. Sports must be also made a vital topic and incorporated as a part of the education model in schools, colleges and the universities. Strict guidelines must be circulated among the schools, which only encourage cricket. They must be derecognized and proper steps must be taken to revive other sports. Corporate houses must take initiative and encourage sports like Hockey, Football which is having less people support. The sports person of other sports must be facilitated well and proper funding must be provided to other associations to boost the sagging morale of other sports. India can then become a sports loving nation, rather than a cricket loving nation.

Surely cricket killed other sports. But other sports were killed more of our leginess and refrening from going outside and playing high energetic games. Any how wish our younger generation, i mean new generation will adore all games and not only this lazy cricket.
