MATCH is another great Formulla/Function available in excel.

Match is used to locate the Raw Number or Column number containing the given Data.

Match is really useful when used with other formullas.

Example:

Suppose in given table you want find which Raw contains the date 2/28/2012, you can use match formulla.

In given example we have only 5 raws contaning data but in real life situation you may be dealing with thousands of Raws.

So we will use the Match formulla to find which raw contains the given Data

=MATCH(B12,A14:A19,0)

5

2/28/2012

Date as per Bank

Date as per your Books

Number

3/13/2012

12-03-2012

1

4/23/2012

23-04-2012

2

5/20/2012

19-05-2012

3

2/28/2012

26-02-2012

4

06/14/2012

13-06-2012

So you can see that raw number 5 contains the date 2/28/2012.

Same way if you select the Columns in Array Selection, you can locate the column number.
