TROUBLED WATERS OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR
The disaster which struck Jammu and Kashmir in the month of September 2014 was a shocker for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Many people were marooned for life and many lost their lives. The impact of the flood was very high and properties worth Crores were destroyed. The Met department had given warning to the Omar Abdulla adminstration months back, however the government failed to take precautionary steps and avoid the calamity. The government came under criticisms for its lazy attitude.
There was tremendous outrage in the mind and hearts of the people and massive sympathy and support to Kashmiris was taking place. Many human rights groups and non governmental organizations slammed the governemnt for its laid back attitude and actively participated in the relief and rescue efforts on a war footing. The people braved the weather and terrorist groups and came out in lakhs and assisted the non government organisation, police and security forces. Most of the sepetist and Jihadi groups felt that stone pelting, anti India slogans, critical of major Indian politcal leaders are the actual feeling of the Jammu and Kashmir people. However after this flashfloods, everything changed considerably. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Damodardas Modi decided to grant approx 600 crore relief package to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. PM also decided to spend and celebrate Diwali festival with Kashmiris by going to Jammu and Kashmir.
