Use social media and online tools to boost business marketin
Lot of traffic that websites receiv nowdays is from social networking sites such as facebook or twitter.
Can someone explain how effectively we can use these tools and get an edge over others in terms of marketing.
And the likes we see on facebooks are real or robot generated? This doubt arised because seen many useless sites with lot of fans.
When you are getting to marketing on social media platforms, as a first step you can set your goal clear in terms of what exactly are you after. Your targets through social media can be:
1. Getting hits on a website
2. Increasing brand awareness/likes/followers
3. Generation of online leads (E-commerce platform)
4. Generation of offline leads
If your target is hits on website, make sure you post relevant and interesting links of your website on the Facebook page or Twitter. However, your Facebook page should not be just about your specific product/service. To hold your audience's interest, run your business page keeping in view of your industry. Also make sure you give interesting and free useful content goodies from time to time.
Likes, can be real as well as fake, unfortunately. Some companies indulge in fraudulent practices of selling likes or followers. One should keep in mind that this is a very bad investment as all you gather is dead audience and no engagement. Furthermore, if your real audience comes to know you have fake likes, your brand image will be badly tarnished.
That being said, a bad site can still have lots of (real) fans, if they are really doing their social media well, or if they have a good network with their customers.
Thanks for the reply. Is there in toll by which we calculate the number of visitors or geographical info of likes received for a site.
Because i have seen lot of junk sites with lot of likes and recent case of Ashok gehalot(CM of Rajasthan), he had likes from outside India.
And his page was caught by media. Can we check a page and location of fans?
Well explained by chinmay. In most of the cases Social traffic increases the chances of online leads.
Social traffic is mostly drived by friends activities and proves to be a good referell point for potential customers.
And also for websites it could be a good traffic driver. But have to be very carefull and not to spam everything we come across online.

Coming to the issue of likes, unfortunately, there is no sure shot way as such to give you clear answer if a brand has fake fans. But is can still be found out with a decent accuracy in some ways.
One of the ways is to click on the 'Likes' section of any business page.
Here you'll come to know of things like
1. Most popular week
2. Most popular city
3. Most popular age group
You can check these and take a guess if it the target audience of the brand and within the target locations. For eg. if a New Delhi's Ice Cream store's Facebook page shows their most popular city of their fans to be New York, you can take a guess that likes might be fake and perhaps bought from an agency/company abroad.
Another way one can come to know is by checking the ratio of 'People talking about this' and 'Total Likes', which is available on the same page. If 'Total page likes' are 50,000 and people talking about the page is as less as 200-300, you can assume that the lack of engagement might be due to paid likes.
These are a couple of ways in which we can get an idea. However no cent-percent accurate method is present yet as the exact details of the page likes of a business page are not made visible by Facebook to anyone but the administrators/managers of the Facebook page.
