Why Samsung may loose further market share in India?

Rakesh Bharadwaj

Samsung and Sony are two major smartphone manufacturers in the world which have manufactured masterpieces from the beginning. Although samsung has created a monopoly kind of situation in India in the past 5-6 yrs, it has started to loose market share from last one year to other OEMs like HTC, Sony, Nokia.

As we all know samsung galaxy series introduced by samsung back in 2009 has become a household brand for the Indians. As Indian techies, geeks, users started showing more and more interest in smartphones, samsung also came up with flagship phones with exceptional hardware and technologies. The Samsung galaxy SII, SIII, S4, Note 2 , Grand series became a huge hit in India. Likewise Sony also launched their Xperia series which made quite a noise in the market due to its exceptional Camera and Audio capabilities.

Now, as the Indian market is quite educated about the technology of Android and also willing to spend on flagship phones, these big brand phone makers have very less mistakes to make and have to offer pathbreaking technology at comparable prices.

The Latest flagships introduced by Samsung - Galaxy S5 and Xperis Z2 are two such phones which any smartphone Geek would like to lay his hands on. They are supposed to be best phones to be made by the respective companies till date. Lets see how samsung fails to deliver technology to Indians while Sony manages to score higher rank in Xperia Z2.

First and foremost blunder done by Samsung was discrimination against Indians. Yes, the galaxy s4, s5 are actually built in with a Snapdragon 800/801 processor which are sold Outside India. The Snapdragon chip is the best in class mobile chip used by big smartphone makers. However, the Galaxy S5 sold in India does not have a Snapdragon chip. It uses an samsung in-house chip called Exynos. Exynos chipset does not have 4G capabilities, too slow, lags too much, Graphics are way too outdated and comsumes a lot of battery compared to Snapdragon. Whereas Xperia Z2 comes with a snapdragon 801. Samsung lacks Optical Image stabilization, does not have a FM radio with just 2G Ram for a 50K phone. It also does not support USB 3.0. Whereas Xperia z2 has all that is required to make it a 50k phone. Its 21 Mp camera can be compared to DSLR camera. Such a joy to use the camera. Its battery is bigger than galaxy S5 . It comes with a 3GB Ram as well.

Be it graphics, screensize, processor, 4G, Camera, Image processing technology, Sony is way ahead compared to Galaxy S5. Xperia Z2 has became a Winner for sure. Both the phones were launched at around 50,000. However, samsung has already reduced S5 price to around 37k due to lack of market. However, Z2 still is maintaing its price at around 49k.

Its high-time samsung wakesup and stops its double standards against India. It should not forget that because of India it has become a market leader in smartphones.

I never bought a samsung in my life and will never buy one. These are one of the costeliest and slowest mobile.

One funny thing i noticed with samusng mobiles is they become scrap soon after warranty period.

But i heard, SONY is disconsitnuing its Smartphone business and will concentrate on only TV business.

Samsung has ofcourse lost the market in low end Micromax, Karbon and now APPLE is a big competitor in high end range.

Micromax and Karbonn are tough competitors to Samsung. But, Indian geeks are still showing there brand loyalty to samsung inspite of its Crap phones. Indian market needs to come out of this mind block that only apple and samsung can only provide quality products. Once it was nokia, then came samsung, now its high time Indians become rationale consumers rather than just showing their brand loyalty. At the same time, micromax and karbonn also have to stepup to a new level. Investing in better chipsets, sensor technologies, camera sensors etc can only make micromax to scale to new heights.

Rahul Rai,

The research team and engineers working in samsung are not fools and morons. Samsung is not a small company like tikshare.com. They work with technology, they play with it and produce and bring revolution in technology. You must buy one samsung phone or atleast go to some stores and do a review of those phones and then comment about whether its slow or fast, costly etc. instead of commenting according to your whims and fancies. Be responsible while you are commenting. Samsung not lost the market to Micromax or Karbonn completely nor it has lost to Iphone. Yes, its market share in India has reduced by a huge margin due to entry of these domestic players. Still, samsung remains to be the brand many love. You are wrong in your belief that apple is a big competitor in high end. Iphones, Ipads are not android phones and the amount of customization on IOS based OS is practically nil. ANdroid is still the only OS which can be customised like anything u like to.
